I guess I started selecting tunes when I was aged around four years old. My father had eight brothers and sisters which meant many large family gatherings in various uncles and aunties houses spread across north London. I remember picking up a bunch of seven inch singles by the likes of The Beatles, The Monkees, The Kinks and Dusty Springfield, carefully place them one by one on the portable gramophone spindle and watch them drop onto the rubber platter below…. the arm would move and the needle would hit the groove. And then great MUSIC coming out of the little mono speaker - just magical!
I was lucky enough to be there at the birth of Punk, Hip-Hop and House and slowly graduated from taking over the cassette player with my home made mix tapes to eventually become successful enough to perform as a DJ in clubs and events around the world.
I guess once I fell in love with those circular pieces of magical plastic during my formative years it wasn't a matter of choosing this as a path, the path pretty much chose me.
These days I work in new media, especially the art of linking visuals to audio but occasionally I like to get behind the decks and just get lost in the music…
