What I've been listening to for the last couple of months.
Those of you who have been listening to my mixes these last few years has probably noticed the change of style. I haven't really gone hard left or right, rather evolved a bit as to what I prefer. Matured, perhaps. I have been moving more towards the deeper stuff, but at the same time keeping some of the underlying grooves from past mixes, or keeping it melodic and interessting. Never will you see me take the minimal techno route - it lacks soul.
I still listen to whatever is labeled "soulful house music", it's just that I don't find it inspiring with a whole set filled with this genre. Digging a bit deeper - like House Sessions 032 - you can start out on the more mellow stuff just north of 100 BPM, move through some deepsco/nu disco to add a touch of panache, and end up around 120 BPM with something that can actually be played in a big room/club. Going from 100 to 120 BPM in a soulful or funky house disco mix *could* work, I just don't think it works as good and has that natural progress that of a deeper set.
Anyway, hope you all enjoy and let me know if you want more of this. I am doing mixes less frequently than before simply because I want each and every song to be something special. Quality over quantity, yes? Take care people.
