Genuinely saddened to hear of the passing of Michael Watford. What a voice; one of the all time great house vocalists.
The gospel-influenced New Jersey sound was never huge in the UK but I couldn't get enough of it back in the day. I first discovered Michael via the Hard Times compilation album in 1995 and from then on I would always seek out his stuff in the import racks. His name on the credits would be enough to buy on sight in the second hand crates, too - found a few gems that way!
This is a recording of a few favourites from my collection, mixed live on vinyl so a little rough and ready.
Beautiful People features Michael on backing vocals, in case you're wondering - he was a prolific collaborator way beyond just the records with his name on.
