a few broken computers and a shitload of freeware from the internet. that's not my bag, baby. labguest started out making electronic music and doing some light production work about five or six years ago in his lo-fi bedroom studio, and just recently started getting into recording DJ mixes. originally trained in jazz on the trumpet, this self-taught producer's sets include a lot of progressive-influenced house, a lot of 90s pop and dance remixes, and a serious juxtaposition of new and old, obscure and kitschy. labguest developed his sound from a peculiar mix of genres and got into electronic music ironically enough through psychedelic jam bands and their complicated set lists, especially the inverted set list style of the disco biscuits and their electronica side project, conspirator. this, and an increasing taste for instrumental hip hop, IDM, and classic detroit house, drew labguest towards a more uptempo flavor and away from mash-ups and composition to experimenting with transitions and set work. Located in the Hudson Valley, labguest is a part time student, full-time artist involved in graphic design, audio production, architecture, and any interesting combination of the above.
