I first started djing around about 12 years ago when i was 17. It was by chance i knew a dj in a bar and one week he asked me if i could do his set for him as he couldnt make it and gave me a brief lesson on what to do and from there i was hooked. I started getting sets playing hip hop and garage in Doncaster and sheffield and then discovered speed garage in 2001 and then started playing that. During that time myself and 2 others started a label called Gridlockd Records which became one of the biggest labels in the scene in a very short time as we were the only label making original tracks. Fast forward 12 years and in that time i played the first bassline set on bbc 1xtra, put together a compilation for ministry of sound (Maximum bass 2007) And had tracks signed to mos and all around the world (Universal). I decided in 2008 that i wasnt gonna pidgeonhole myself to one genre and went self employed as a dj and tutor. Around that time i got my own show on local legal radio station sine fm and my weekend vibes show did so well they moved me from 2-3 sat afternoon to 6-8 saturday night the show before dj legend graeme park. Nowadays i do a show called the history of Dance music on sine fm 102.6fm in Doncaster or www.sinefm.com worldwide every tuesday evening 8pm-10pm.

Started off as a young-un listening to the shit my old man was playing, Led-Zep, Rainbow, Wishbone Ash, Dylan, Creme, Yardbirds, until in 1979 i bought my first single, Pink Floyds "another brick in the wall"... 1979 was a good year, Floyd, Blondie, the Police, Rainbow, the Jam, Peter Gabriel to name a few that i remember. The 80's was, well, it was the 80's. Lots of electronic music. In the 90's i started to listen to punk, metal, industrial stuff, but really looking for sounds with a stomping rythym... I found Ministry, Front242, Frontline Assembly, Alien Sex Fiend, Sleeping Dogs Wake, Skinny Puppy, then in the early/mid 90's i started going to Raves. At first, just blinded by the whole scene (yeah, the drugs were pretty cool..!) i liked it all, but around '94ish, i found the sound i'd been searching for. Relentless, mechanical, dark, tribal. Yeah, I'd found Techno. And a wee dabble in Jungle, DnB, and funky House aside, I've been Techno ever since. Now, going back a bit, my involvement in music began in the late 80's. I experimented with guitars, drum machines and keyboards, played (badly) in a goth/punk band for a while. Then went on to mess about with sound modules and sequencers, mashin' out some industrial stuff. Then nothing til about '93, when i got into the same setup, this time making odd acid sounding stuff. Then i learned to play the dij. But all this time, i never learned to mix (as in mixing two records together). All that was to change with the internet, Mp3s, Virtual DJ and Hercules DJ products. Did my first mix back in early 2010 (it was shit and removed from soundcloud), but the bait was taken. I was hooked... I do most of my mixes in one take, going with it, riding the beats, and occasionally fuck things up a wee bit... But i don't crash, i sort it out and keep on a-riding... Hopefully I'm improving. If i'm not, well, who cares. I 've always made my music for me, but if you like it, then thats ok too...Techno, and that's that... also on soundcloud ( http://soundcloud.com/wrongjon ) and mixcloud ( http://www.mixcloud.com/wrongjon )

HI there Im Retired from dj ing now after 25 yrs, well i say that but have a few nights now and then, ive played all overLondonfor all the big clubs over the years, and in the south.. started with oldskool, then house, then hard trance and acid techno.. before moving on to what i am known for inLondonon the underground circuit back then is hard house,it was known as hard bag in the early days, was one of the dj`s that was playing it as it was new to the dance scene from the days of house and the days of club uk, there was house, progressive house, industrial techno, then hard bag came about, it was different from all other music at the time and was for the hard head to rave to, some of the promotions i have played for over the years are hacienda, gods kitchen, ministry of sound, cream, house ofWindsor( mirage ) satellite, mind over matter, frantic, twisted, sunny side up, trinity, liberty, freedom, smile, convergence, smileCyprus, pandemonium, strawberrySunday, aphrodisiac, intrigue, hard drive, catch 22, provocation, eye q, wobble, rush, wobble berry, bounce, to name a few but there are many more, sorry if i haveforgottenyou, let me know and i will put you up, I have a load of live sets that were recorded in the clubs over the years, have all different styles of music, so will be putting them up from now on, alot of the recordings would have had over a 1000 ravers avin it,that'show it was back then,so imagine that when listening, some of the mixes maybe shady in places but hey its live and all done on vinyl please feel free to share, download, and comment ect ... I have had such joy bringing the live mixes to you and the response ive had has been amazing, thanks for listening and enjoying them and understanding, they were when the music was brand new and were fresh on the decks everyweek.... SteadyJ

2x Technics SL1210 Mk II Citronic Pro-10 2 x Pioneer CDJ 400 Kaoss Pad II iKey Plus - recorded to WAV Audacity - compress to 320kbps  MP3 All my mixes are done real time without software. Sometimes I edit with Audacity to remove errors. 6000+  vinyl & 3000+ cd: 80s synthpop, soul/funk, electro, hip hop, dub & roots, chicago house, acid house, rave/hardcore, techno, handbag house, hard techno, detroit techno, drum & bass, IDM, ambient, trance, tech-house, progressive house, electro house, dubstep, and a bit of everything in between! for collection listing and pics: http://www.discogs.com/user/steady-j Where do I start? Graeme Park, WARP, Public Enemy, Autechre, No U Turn, Alex Patterson, Roger Troutman, Juan Atkins, Todd Terry, Jeff Mills, Pete Namlook, Mark Archer Been into music since I was a kid - soul & funk on the radio with Robbie Vincent on a Sunday eve after Annie Nightingale after the Charts! Hooked on house from when I first heard those first few "House" records from Chicago in late 86 - Love Can't Turn Around, Jack Your Body etc. Also into Hip Hop big time in those days - first it was Mantronix & LL CoolJ, then Public Enemy, NWA, Run DMC all that stuff! Got the record buying bug at Uni. Cut my mixing teeth at University Radio and bought some Soundlab decks with my summer job money. They wore out in about 4 or 5 years and were replaced by the Technics. Following Dance Music's twists and turns through the years, trying most things, but not loving all genres. My biggest musical regret is spurning the nascent hardcore scene when the tracks were still sounding rough and ropey, and I missed out on the development of jungle between 92-95, picking up again with the techstep thing in 95. But I sure as hell bought a lot of house and techno in those years! Late 90s I concentrated on techno, D&B and "IDM"  - the whole WARP/Aphex/Autechre spawned genre of electronic listening music and experimentation. But I kept ujp with the commercial house and trance stuff too. Spent a lot of money on vinyl and clubbing in those days, Styles I never really got into (but still enjoy in the right circumstances) include happy hardcore, gabba, breaks, minimal and UKG (until dubstep and its more recent mutations). Early 2000s was lean years for me with starting a family, plus illness, slowing down my clubbing and music purchasing. A Numark CD deck joined my setup but became unreliable after a few years and was replaced by the Pioneers. Picked up again in the last few years with more new purchases than in the early 2000s but still a lot less than in the 90s due to time and funding limitations. Nowadays listening to D&B, dubstep, house, techno, and any eclectic stuff that catches my ear. Mostly buy CDs and MP3 now due to the cost of vinyl but still love mixing vinyl and prefer the hands-on approach, hence the Pioneers instead of a laptop. The Citronic is the third mixer I have owned and by far the best. The Kaoss Pad was a lucky bargain from a friend of a friend, and the iKey is essential for recording, after years of using tape and minidisc! I listed "house" as my favourite genre, not because that is what I favour most at present, but because in a way it's all house music. To me, Chicago House (and Detroit Techno) circa 1986 was the focal point, the narrowing in the funnel of all music, that then went on to fan out and spawn all the music I love. And by the way, I know its a long shot, if you like what you hear, any promoters or anyone wanting a DJ for a club, bar or even a party, somewhere around the West Midlands and Worcestershire, UK (I live in Malvern) in any of the styles of any of my mixes uploaded here, just get in touch!
