Security Valve -- will open and relieve tank pressure if the tank pressure exceeds valve setting. This will occur if the pressure switch fails to turn off the compressor in the preset pressure.

Simplex -- is a configuration of air compressors which has a single pump on a tank, which is the most common. Medical installment requires duplex configurations (two pumps) in case a pump becomes inoperative. Other special applications may necessitate triplex (three pumps) or more.

Double Stage -- electric power is the most frequent power available in most residential and industrial buildings. Single-phase electricity is commonly available in 115 and 230 volts. The power available in the customer's location affects the choice of motor used on the air compressor.

Air is first compressed to an intermediate pressure at the low-pressure cylinder, chilled at the intercooler, and then compacted to 175 PSI in the high-pressure cylinder. Other specialty compressors may raise air to even higher pressures through multi-stage compression in which air may be compressed three or more times to achieve pressures of tens of thousands of PSI.

Unloader Valve -- is an integral part of a pressure switch and can be mechanically activated when the switch contacts available. The valve shut-off the air pressure between the pump and check valve so that the pump can start unloaded another time the pressure switch senses the need. Failure of the unloader can cause excess wear on the engine.

Valve Plates -- are cast plates on which are mounted the exhaust and intake valves for each of the cylinders.

Vertical Tank -- configurations have the pump and motor mounted on a tank with extended axis standing. This configuration requires the least floor area but is significantly less stable than a flat configuration since it is too heavy.

Automatic inflator-- Automatic tire inflator or air compressor works in such a way that once you set a pressure, and again when it reached its set pressure it will automatically shut-off.
