Back in 2021 whilst working on “Hot Summer Vibes Monsterjam volume 2” for DMC which was released end of June 2021 (and is still available on the official DMC store website) I came up with the idea of doing a stand-alone mash-up for DMC of two songs I was using in “Hot Summer Vibes Monsterjam volume 2” being:
- Janet Jackson “Nasty”
- The Blow Monkeys “It Doesn’t Have To Be This Way”
and produce “It Doesn’t Have To Be Nasty”. The two songs are absolute favourites of mine from the 80s (I’m a serious 80s music lover).
Now the difference of this mash-up “It Doesn’t Have To Be Nasty” with most of the ‘regular’ mash-ups that are available everywhere, is the fact that this is NOT just the acapella of track A ‘put on top’ of the instrumental of track B. In my mash-up production of “It Doesn’t Have To Be Nasty” I use vocal parts AND instrumental parts of BOTH songs!
So you’ll also hear music of the Janet Jackson track and not just Janet’s vocals. Same goes for The Blow Monkeys: using both music parts and vocal parts. It was sort of a new concept I came up with (maybe it’s done before, dunno, but I myself have never heard anything combined like the way I’ve done in this mash-up I produced for DMC) and it really works SO well.. even if I do say so myself 😃
The ‘Head Of Music’ at that time, back in 2021, said he LOVED it and it was released on “Commercial Collection DMC461 JUNE 2021”. It’s track 04. on CD TWO and “Commercial Collection DMC461 JUNE 2021” is a 3x CD issue so definitely worth it’s money.

And for those that are wondering: nope, I did NOT get paid for doing this mash-up and no I do NOT get a commission for every “Commercial Collection DMC461 JUNE 2021” album that’s sold either! 🤷🏼♂️ So please don’t think I’m ‘advertising’ this mash-up to earn a few bucks, because my producing for DMC is all on a voluntary basis!
